Mitchell Center ribbon cutting

The newly constructed Mitchell Center, named after Louis A. Mitchell ‘57, was officially dedicated on Friday (April 19). It features the Trumbull Aquatics Center and the Crown Fitness Center which are open for use, though the center will not be entirely completed until August.

Day of Silence

Sponsored by Denison’s Outlook, Friday (April 19) was also a Day of Silence in protest of those who suffer LGBT-based bullying. The day was concluded with a performance by spoken word artist Andrea Gibson (see article on page 9).

DCA Awards Presented 

Denison Community Association presented their annual service awards to individuals and organizations on April 17. Denison Homelessness and Hunger recieved the Knobel Award for Excellence in Service, and Tori Couch ‘13 received the Irene Kennedy Continued Commitment to Service award, Alfonso Henderson ‘15 received the Lyn Robertson Volunteer of the Year; Peter Hurford ‘14, Kristine Mallinson ‘15, and Meghan Pearce ‘16 respectively received Outstanding Junior, Sophomore and Rookie of the Year.

Sparta Cafe also received Agency of the Year for continued support for DCA organizations. Niles Gebele, Sodexo general manager, and Molly McGravey, assistant director of the Office of Residential Education and Housing, both received the award for Faculty of the year for their tireless dedication for service.

Earth Week at Denison

Sponsored by Denison’s Green Team, Earth Week begins April 22, and will include events such as a Trashion show on April 24 at 7 p.m. at Slayter Union, and an ongoing clothing collection until Thrusday, April 25, when there will be a clothing exchange at (time).
