You know it’s officially fall when Anchor Splash dives onto campus.
This Sunday Oct. 13, at the Trumbull Aquatic Center, the women of Delta Gamma hosted their annual philanthropy event Anchor Splash among other sororities, fraternities and campus organizations to benefit Service for Sight.The Beta Zeta chapter of DG works with the Licking County Center for the Visually Impaired.
This year, like last year, Delta Delta Delta and Lambda Chi Alpha won. About $4,000 for charity was raised.
Greek organizations participated in underwater competitions like T-shirt relay, ping pong relay, ‘Save a DG, and the synchronized swimming.
All of the dance performances were themed. For example, Beta Theta Pi’s dance was themed around “Alice in Wonderland,” and in which junior AJ Gay dressed up in a blue dress and yellow wig.
Gina Babinec, a DG sophomore from Flossmoor, Ill., was excited to “see everyone’s dances that they’ve put together because I know people have been working extremely hard.”
Her favorite part of Anchor Splash was “seeing so many people in the house get out there and volunteer for tabling in Slayter, and for events around campus that we’ve held this week for both fundraising and raising awareness about our philanthropy, Service for Sight.”
“All of the DG coaches are super excited for their teams, and I know they’ve enjoyed getting to know so many different people,” Babinec said.
Mary Zhu, a junior from Skokie, Ill., is a Delta Gamma sorority member.
“My favorite part of Anchor Splash is the dance! It’s so great feeling the energy in the pool!” said Zhu.
Ten local Granville businesses, including Whits and Elms Pizza, donated gift cards which were raffled away.
Participants of Anchor Splash included Delta Chi, Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Sigma, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Iota Alpha, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Delta Delta, Pi Beta Phi and Delta Gamma.
