Both the men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams competed in their first dual meets this past week.
On the men’s side, the Big Red faced conference rival Wabash on Saturday at home. The men had little trouble defending their territory with a number of events still remaining in the meet, winning 198-156.
A number of DU men had stellar opening performances. First-year Al Nennig looks to have quite the career at Denison, taking first in the 100 and 50 yard breaststroke. Sophomore Andrew Rich dominated the butterfly events, winning both the 100 and 50 yard fly. Senior Sean Chabot continued this trend, excelling in the backstroke events winning the 100 and 50 yard backstroke.
Junior Connor Dignan was the standout diver for the Big Red, claiming first place in the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive.
The women did not have as much success Saturday afternoon, falling to Division I Toledo 264-150. The score, however, does not reflect the potential the women have moving forward this season.
First-years Carolyn Kane and Campbell Costley made their presence known at the Trumbell Aquatics Center. Kane came out on top in the 50, 100, and 200 yard freestyle events. Classmate Costley touched the wall first in the 500 and an additional 200 yard freestyle event.
