The Denisonian compiles relevant call records and incident reports from the Granville Police Department.
On September 27 at 3:37 a.m., police were dispatched to the Granville Mill to discover a female student had climbed to the top of a grain silo. With Denison Security and Granville Fire Department, police assisted the student to the ground. The student exhibited signs of intoxication and was taken to Whisler for evaluation. The following evening, the student was issued a summons for underage consumption of alcohol. On Oct. 2, the student was issued a summons for disorderly conduct.
On October 3 at 11:09 p.m., police were dispatched to Myers Hall in regard to property damage. Upon arriving at the scene, a male student who had been hosting a party in his room told officers that a male non-student had thrown a beer can at his television, shattering the screen. The non-student appeared heavily intoxicated and was arrested for criminal damaging and underage consumption and transported to the police station. After exhibiting symptoms of alcohol poisoning, the non-student was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital and issued a criminal summons.
On October 4 at 1:50 a.m., police cruising near the Erinwood Offices noticed a vehicle pull out from behind a building without its lights on. The vehicle pulled onto Newark-Granville Road heading west, and police stopped it. Officers noticed that the driver, a male student, was visibly trembling and stuttered when he spoke. Police asked the student if they could search the car. The student refused. Police contacted Heath Police Department’s K-9 unit, who conducted a sweep of the vehicle and alerted officers to the driver-side door. Upon further search of the vehicle, officers discovered a pipe and grinder with leafy green vegetation inside. The student advised that the items belonged to him, and was placed under arrest and issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia.
On October 11 at 1:26 a.m., police at the intersection of Burg and W. College Streets witnessed a vehicle blow a stop sign coming southbound on Burg. Police pulled over the vehicle near the intersection of College and N. Main. The driver, an of-age male student, could not locate his driver’s license. The student stated he had been in a rush and, when asked if he had been drinking, said yes. Officers conducted three field sobriety tests, all of which the student failed. The student said he had drank one beer and two bloody marys. Officers breathalyzed the student, who provided a sample of .155 BAC, above the Ohio legal limit of 0.08. The student was placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while impaired and transported to Granville police station. After an observation period, the student provided a second breath sample of 0.151 BAC, and was issued a citation for operating a vehicle while impaired and for failing to stop at a stop sign. Officers then drove the student back to his on-campus residence, where he provided police with his driver’s license and insurance information.
