JAX PREYER — The class of 2019 and their families are now expecting a special guest from one of Denison’s more famous alumni.
It was announced via a Youtube video posted on Tuesday, February 26 and shared from the university’s official Twitter account that actress Jennifer Garner ‘94 will be giving this year’s commencement address, in the form of a video filmed by Garner addressing the senior class head-on.
“I hope you’re enjoying your last semester senior year. I remember it can be a lot of fun, so don’t do anything that will prevent you from walking the walk on May 18th because I get to be there and watch you graduate!” the actress announced in the video.
Garner seemed to have a mix of excitement and nervousness in the video.
“Unless President Weinberg lets me out of it…it seems like I’m going to give your commencement address,” said Garner in the video announcement, “I guess he couldn’t get Oprah or Michelle Obama or anyone real, so it’s gonna be me,” she joked.
Garner is a critically acclaimed actress, has been nominated four times for an Emmy for her work on the ABC thriller series Alias which aired from 2001 to 2006, winning both a Screen Actors Guild award as well as a Golden Globe.
However, the class of 2019 likely knows her best from the now classic 2004 romantic comedy 13 Going on 30. She has also Taken on roles in The Invention of Lying, Juno, Dallas Buyers Club, or most recently the popular coming-of-age movie Love, Simon are also just a few of the many hit films under Garner has under her belt.
During her time on the hill at Denison, she majored in theater performance and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
“I can’t wait to be there with all of you and I can’t wait to be back on the Denison campus again,” Garner said, before signing off with a message to the senior class, “Hold on to it tight, it goes away!”
