Global China Connection (GCC), Asian Cultural Club (ACC), and the Denison Asian Student Union (DASU) held an event to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on Friday, September 17.

Occurring on the 15th Day of the 8th month of Chinese Lunar Calendar, the occasion is celebrated across East and Southeast Asia. Yifan, an organizer with the Global China Connection, explained that for him the festival symbolizes connecting with loved ones and your community.

Mai Dang, a sophomore from Vietnam where the day is celebrated as a Children’s festival, says it brings back childhood memories of singing and eating mooncakes. Mooncakes, among other food snacks, were the star of the evening with the yolk variety being especially popular among attendees.

Yunji Cho, a junior from Korea where the traditional celebrations are three days long, explained that for her, the Autumn Eve festival usually includes big family dinners and reconnecting with loved ones.

Lanterns, which also signify the celebration of this day in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, were another feature of the event. Among lantern painting, riddles, and a draw, the event also included students sharing myths and histories associated with the festival and celebrations.
