HARRISON HAMM, Staff Writer—
Frequent patrons of The Nest have surely noticed a change to the menu so far this semester: instead of bacon mac and cheese, it’s chicken mac and cheese. Additionally, Fallon Brackley ‘25 said, “the pizzas have changed, they’re a different size, and definitely smaller.”
Those that are disappointed with the change can take it up with Adam Poling, the General Manager of Bon Appetit, who says that he is perfectly willing to change it back.
“Menu updates from year to year are made based on student feedback,” Poling said. “If students would like bacon back, I am happy to do so, they just need to let us know.” Students can send dining feedback to [email protected] or text 740-651-4364.
Poling also clarified other minor Denison dining controversies. While the Slayter market is closed earlier now, at 10 p.m., the deli and grill hours have extended until closing time, and The Nest covers the late night hours on weeknights, closing at 1 a.m. To cover the closing of the Slayter market, The Nest increased its offerings of bottled beverages and snacks.
Students have noticed other changes as well, Hannah Lambaren ‘24 said, “the spice bowl portions are always changing, and they’re almost ten dollars now, which seems excessive.”
Poling noted, however, that the portion size is the same as previous years.
He said that Bon Appetit will continue to gather student input through surveys and email feedback. They’ve recently made such changes as increasing vegan and gluten-free options, adding a new vending cooler on South Quad, and allowing students to purchase goods using declining dollars from local partners at events like the Farmers’ Market.
Bon Appetit has been providing dining service for Denison since 2013, employing trained and experienced chefs to make the food at Slayter, Huffman, and Curtis. Poling emphasized that students can send feedback to the email or phone number listed above.
