Election day on Nov. 5 is just around the corner, yet many eligible voters still have questions about the voting process.
The non-partisan voter education organization DU Votes has been working to educate students about their voting rights and promote civic engagement. Each Monday and Thursday, DU Votes is stationed at Slayter Flagpole from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., providing students with the resources they need to vote.
On Sept. 17, DU Votes celebrated National Voter Registration Day on Academic Quad with complimentary hot dogs for newly registered voters, courtesy of Campus Safety. Though free food is a bonus, DU Votes is still attracting students without it.
Annie Whitley ‘26, PPA major and Events Coordinator for DU Votes, says the accessibility and approachability of the organization’s events is making it as simple as possible for Denison students to get registered.
“In the last three weeks, I would guess that we have directly registered 200-300 people in Ohio,” Whitley said. “Many more have taken registration forms and completed them on their own or registered absentee online.”
DU Votes recommends students register and solidify their voting plan before October, so they have plenty of time to adjust before the voter registration deadline on Oct. 7.
Mary Hodgkins ‘27, Communication Coordinator for DU Votes, said the organization’s twice-a-week appearances at Slayter won’t stop until Election Day.
“Anytime you see DU Votes people, please stop by and ask your questions,” Hodgkins said.
In addition to their tabling events, students planning to vote in person can join DU Votes in their walk to the polls on Nov. 5. The group will head down the hill to the First Presbyterian Church in Granville, 110 W. Broadway, to cast ballots. Students voting on campus will need to bring an Ohio driver’s license, a passport, or a birth certificate, as mandated by Ohio law. However, students who wish to vote on campus but do not have a valid ID can vote by mail.
If you missed DU Votes last week, look for them at Slayter Flagpole for the next month. Connect with @duvotes on Instagram for up-to-date voting news, or to reach out with questions.
