DUVotes, an organization that focuses on boosting students’ civil engagement in a nonpartisan way, plans to keep students engaged with voting and civic duty on Denison’s campus.

Entirely student-led, the organization hosts events such as rock-the-vote, an event held during election years where bands perform while encouraging people to register to vote, and events on civic holidays such as national voter registration day.

“We will be hosting events throughout the fall to spread our resources and knowledge about how to ensure your voice is heard,” said Annie Whitley, ‘26, one of the organization’s co-coordinators. “We will be tabling in Slayter multiple times a week and advertising important deadlines on our social media.”

Whitely encourages students to come up with their own voting plan, and offers support for students on how to do so.

It is important to come up with a voting plan, which DU Votes is happy to help with. Typical components of this would be: which state are you voting in, what is the registration deadline, and will you be voting in person or by absentee voting?

“I hope that students understand the nonpartisan mission of DU Votes is to ensure all Denison students feel prepared to engage in our electoral process,” Whitley said.

The primary election will be held on May 5. This election serves as a lead up to the general election in November, and allows citizens to vote for candidates that may be on the ballot for the general election.
