Six campus organizations appealed the amounts they were allocated by the preliminary DCGA budget in the latest meeting.

Relay for Life was approved for their $2,300 appeal to cover Jordan Sound’s musical production costs.

DCA followed with an appeal for $7,066 for car and van rental. The senate covered $5,166.60 of the car rental, but not the request for van rental arguing that “using the DCA cars and personal vehicles is more cost effective.”

After asking for an additional $8,704.52, UPC was granted only $254.52 to pay for next year’s D-Day performers’ hotel rooms. $6,500 was requested for an agent to help book the act for D-Day and was not funded.  Furthermore, the senate did not vote to fund the $1,950 that UPC needed to attend the National Association of Campus Activities Conference in Baltimore.

The Clay Target Club requested and was granted $2,354 to cover one round of shooting for nine people at a range in Delaware, Ohio.  They were originally not granted any funds due to rumors that the club had failed to invite interested students to its events.

The Denisonian appealed for $920 to be able to afford to print four color pages in each issue.  The newspaper was granted the funds.

Finally, La Fuerza Latina asked the senate for $10,000 to help cover the expenses required to bring Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchu to speak at Denison. The appeal was approved in full thanks to collaborations with other campus organizations who have offered to help fund the event. The listed cost to bring Menchu to campus is $25,000.

Lily Gross ‘19, the public relations chair for the DCGA was happy with how the appeal process played out.

“We had a very successful appeals meeting on Tuesday and overall feel very good about the way in which budgets were allocated and appeals were handled.”

The organization is also holding elections. Interested students should already have attended an election meeting and must submit a platform to Angela Gloninger ‘18 by Wednesday, April 13.

Students are also welcome to attend the DCGA’s weekly meetings.  They are held on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Burton Morgan Lecture Hall.
