The Big Red Track teams travelled to the Kenyon Spring Invitational in Gambier, Ohio this past weekend. Overall, the men’s team took seventh place and the women’s team secured sixth place.
Two members of the men’s Big Red track team competed in Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Classic. Bryan Fowler ‘16 finished seventh in the javelin Friday night and David Carter ‘19 took part in the triple jump on Saturday afternoon, also placing seventh. Carter posted his own personal-best jump of 172’5” earning seventh place as well.
In Gambier, the rest of the Big Red had many notable performances on the track and in the field. Church Humphreys ‘18 led the Big Red with a second place finish and the triple jump. In addition, Ryan Keller ‘16 and Drake Lohnes ‘17 both took third in their respective events, the 800 meter run and the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Other notable performances came from Isaac Reed ‘19 who finished fourth in the 110 hurdles and Mitch Keller ‘16 who placed fifth in the in the 400 meter dash. Quenton Richards ‘16 also helped the Big Red earn points by finishing sixth in the 100 meter dash.
For the women, Ajai Brooks ‘19 set two Denison outdoor records at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State University. She broke both her own and the school’s records in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. Also at the classic, Aedin Brennan ‘16 placed fifteenth in the javelin, Arlesha Cospy ‘18 placed seventh in the discus, and Hannah Hall ‘18 competed in the high jump for the Big Red.
In Gambier, the Big Red finished sixth with 57 points. Rebecca Fritch ‘16 broke the school record in the hammer throw, securing fourth in the event. Anne Lee ‘17 also led the Big Red women posting a pair of top five finishes in the triple jump and the long jump. Jessica Nix ‘18, Phoebe Osterhout ‘18, Mackenzie Mason ‘19, and Grace Zukowski ‘19 all had fourth place finished in the 100 hurdles, 800 run, pole vault, and high jump respectively.
The Big Red returns to competition next Friday, when they host their annual Big Red Invitational. Field events are scheduled to begin at 3:30pm and running events will start at 6:30pm.
