The Big Red men’s golf team concluded their fall season, taking 7th place at the BSN Fall Invitational hosted by Kenyon College. Notable performances came from Nick Brodbeck ’19 who took 19th place with 222 strokes followed by teammate Guille Henegar ‘17 who placed 31st overall with 225 strokes. After three-rounds of competition, the Big Red finished with 913 strokes.
The Big Red Men competed in 5 invitationals this fall. Their best finish was at the Battle at the Brook, where they took 4th place overall.
Reflecting on the fall, Henegar ’17 said, “Our fall season is a warm up for the spring season. We try to make sure that the guys on the team get to experience tournament golf, so that they know what to expect for the spring. We have a young team this year with six of our nine guys being freshman and sophomores, and they have played very well so far. I would say that our biggest issue this fall was consistency.”
Henegar is looking forward to the spring and said, “We have a good foundation to build on when the spring season comes around, but we need to be more consistent. There is a lot of excitement about what could happen come conference time.”
Last week, the Denison women’s golf won the team championship at the Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational, beating the competition by 46 strokes. Annie Miller ’17 earned NCAC Player of the Week (see page 10) honors for her performance at the invitational, where she posted a two-round total of 159 (78, 81). Other notable performances came from teammates Emmy Timberlake ’20, who finished third with a pair of 81’s, Sophie Kollin ’18, who took fourth, and Tina Berardi ’17, who secured 5th for the Big Red.
The week before, the Denison women’s golf team had won the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University. This was the first time the women had back-to-back tournament wins since the spring of 2014.
“Wrapping up our fall season with two first place wins was exciting for our team. I think this season we had a lot of highs along with some lows. However, there were many more highs than lows. As a team we are looking forward to our lifting sessions this winter and excited for our spring season,” Miller said.
