Sometimes a loss can be more beneficial than a win.

The Cross Country team looks to rebound and learn from a loss to Wooster this past weekend, in which the team looked strong, but came up just short.

The highest Big Red finisher was Adam Cromwell ‘21, who finished third with a time of 17:06.8. He was followed closely by Niall Clancey ‘19, who placed fourth. Clancey finished with a time of 17:10.3.

Also scoring for the Big Red were Clayton Watters ‘20 (17:12.4), Jack Marchetti ‘19 (17:29.8), Keanan Ginell ‘22 (18:26.7) and Zackary Johnston ‘22 (19:13.2).

The freshman duo of Ginell and Johnston has been important for the Big Red so far, as they have improved as the season has gone on, as each finished with their highest place so far this season. Ginell finished in eleventh and Johnston finished in sixteenth.

“We were a little sore coming into the Wooster meet and it showed some. Of course that was a 5k and we race 8ks in all other races and everything like that. This weekend is All Ohio so we’ll see how we compare to [Wooster] on an 8k course.”

While this race is important, the team has a few key dates circled on their calendars for down the line.

‘It all comes down to the last two races of the season conference and regionals. We’re just trying to make sure were in the best shape for those last two races and everything like that.
As for Clancey, this season has special meaning. After missing the entirety of his junior season due to injury, he is making his return to competitive racing for his senior year.
“Feels great running XC again. Being out from competitive running for seven months was a real bummer, but it feels great to be back with the team and finishing out my last XC season.”
Catch Clancey and the team back in action at the All-Ohio Championship on Saturday, September 29 in Norton Ohio.
