TORRIA CATRONE, MANAGING EDITOR—Members of Denison’s Multicultural Greek Council showed off their traditions and talents as part of their annual showcase in Herrick Hall. Three active multicultural Greek organizations on campus participated: Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc., Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc., and Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Students in LTA and SLG strolled together, showing the unity within their chapter in a manner similar to stepping. Pride filled the room as they saluted, going through the routines that show their values and history. The Alphas hosted a variety show, with each member of their chapter showing off some sort of talent, from making an iced coffee onstage to completing a speed painting.

The Multicultural Greek Council on Denison’s campus honored other traditions as part of their MGC week celebrations this past week. They highlighted the three active multicultural fraternities and sororities through a series of events meant to start conversation and increase the visibility of these groups at Denison. Throughout the week, Denisonians could participate in events with members of MGC such as community service and a cultural snack social, as well as engage and listen in candid conversation with MGC alumni and the First Gen Network. Members of MGC used these opportunities to share their frustrations with members of IFC and NPC. In order to build better relationships among these councils, members of the panel said, people need to show up. Members of MGC and First Gen students feel alienated from much of the Greek scene that is predominantly white, and want to create more visibility for themselves on campus as their own entities. They asked that members of IFC and NPC make an effort to show up to events and get to know the members of MGC, as they feel this is how change can begin.
