During the week leading up to Valentine’s day, Slayter Student Union was filled with tables for students to celebrate the holiday. Two of these tables spread out across the landing on the second floor of Slayter and boasted bright pink paper banners that read “Cupid’s Condom Grams” and “Bake Sale For Love”.

The Condom Grams table was run by officers and members of Denisonians for Planned Parenthood, including Vice President Eva Coleman ‘24 and Communications & Outreach Chair Zoe Krashes ‘26. At the table, students could order free personalized Valentines with memes, a condom, and candy to be delivered to another student’s Slayter mailbox. Coleman and Krashes explained that they wanted to host the table as a fun, silly way to promote sexual health and safer sex around the holiday.

The Bake Sale For Love table was run by student officers and members of DCSA’s Global Fellows, including Co-Presidents Carolina Romero ‘25 and Jazmyn Rafique ‘26, Fundraising Chair Diana Avila Callejas ‘26, and Treasurer Sarita Toledo ‘26.

“Our mission is to help aid immigrants and refugees locally and globally,” Romero said. “We host different types of events . . . education, social, volunteering, fundraising, and many more to come.”

For this particular event, Global Fellows collaborated with Al-Aqsa Sweets, a local Palestinian-owned bakery in Columbus, to sell baked goods and donate the profits to the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund. There were several different types of baked goods for sale, including three kinds of baklava, and to purchase, students were asked to scan a QR code and make a donation to the Fund directly. In total, Romero said, they raised about $1,000, adding that she considered the event “very successful.”

“I am very thankful to everyone who donated and took the time to stop by the table and ask questions,” Romero said. “It means a lot to see the Denison Community come together to support a good cause.”

Other Valentine-related events in Slayter included Fiona Kogan’s Forever Flowers sale and the Denison Wildlife Conservation Club’s Stuffed Animal Sale to benefit The World Wildlife Fund.
