ELLIE OWEN, Special to the Denisonian—

The Gaming Guild is Denison’s club for all things board games, role-playing games and video games. The guild itself is very casual and fosters a welcoming environment that focuses more on having fun than gaming competitively.

“Not everybody is gaming all the time, sometimes it’s just like hanging out and forming a community,” said Cassidy Crane ‘23, the guild’s small events
coordinator.

The gaming guild is also a sober organization, and their Wednesday and Saturday night meetings allow members to come together and have fun without drinking.

“People with different interests will come together,” Crane said. “This is how I found my friend group when I transferred here.”

The Gaming Guild is always looking for ways to expand their recruitment efforts, and regularly collaborate with different multicultural organizations on campus. Last Saturday’s game night was with DASU, the Denison Asian Student Union. They are also planning another colloaboration with SHARE, Denison’s organization for Sexual Harrassment/Assault Resources and Education, so that they can do their helping hand training.

The community emphasizes traditions that allow members to get to know each other better. Last fall, they took a trip to the Renaissance fair in collaboration with the history department and CLIC.

They also have two larger gaming events each year, BADOGRE (which stands for Big Awesome Day of Gaming, Role-Playing and Eating) and DenCon. These events include larger-scale social games, featuring everything from dungeons and dragons to improv games. In the past, these events have been open to the public and alumni have come back to attend, but this year it’ll just be the guild members because of COVID-19 restrictions.

The group meets on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. in Burton Morgan, and interested students can reach out to PR chair Phoebe Martin ‘24 at [email protected]
