BLAKE QUINTANA, Special to The Denisonian—
From the jovial ticket booth volunteers to the smiling faces of the Denison Bluegrass Ensemble, the Ohiolina Music Festival was surrounded by an atmosphere of laid-back friendliness.
Hidden away deep in the Infirmary Mound Park, it provided a nice separation from the outside world. The parking lot showcased license plates from many different states.
Travelers parked their RVs and set up their tents for a weekend of fun. Families and friends gathered on the grass to take in the sweet sounds of live music.
The performances were lively and heartfelt, moving the audience to tap their feet to the music as the fiddles, guitars, and banjos told tales of heartache and Americana.
Every now and then, a few brave souls would stand up and let the rhythm take them away as they stomped, spun, and snapped.
Beyond the music there were food trucks, beer stands, and small business booths filled with colorful items for sale.
The bands did a great job of interacting with their fans by getting them involved in the microphone checks and encouraging everyone to sing along.
Without a doubt the Ohiolina Music Festival is worth turning into an annual tradition with friends.
